About SCK•CEN

SCK•CEN is one of the largest research centres in Belgium. Throughout its more than 50 years of experience SCK•CEN has earned a reputation as a centre of excellence for research in the field of peaceful applications of nuclear science. Our Services

SCK•CEN offers various services to the nuclear industry, the medical sector and the government. Our research reactors, specialised laboratoria and irradiation facilities are suited for radiation protection dosimetry and calibration, low-level radioactivity measurements, reactor dosimetry, irradiations, material testing, decommissioning and decontamination and filter tests. SCK•CEN is maintaining a Quality Assurance (QA) system according to the international standards.

Science & Society

SCK•CEN attaches great importance to communication about new developments and ethical issues of nuclear science and technology.
In this section you will find information on various nuclear topics. General nuclear concepts are explained such as radioactivity and nuclear fission and fusion. You can read about nuclear applications and health and safety issues. Documentation and multimedia are available. You can ask us a question.

Education & Training

Preserving and extending nuclear knowledge on fundamental and peaceful applications of ionising radiation to serve society, is one of the key elements in SCK•CEN's research policy.
SCK•CEN's Academy for Nuclear Science and Technology coordinates all E&T activities in following fields:
