SNF-TP: Sustainable Nuclear Fission Technology Platform

The SNF-TP coordination action has four specific goals.

  1. It will establish a sustainable, closed fuel cycle for electricity production using innovative (Generation IV) fast-neutron reactor systems in conjunction with partitioning and transmutation (P&T) technologies.
  2. It will also establish a commercially viable very-high temperature reactor (VHTR) for applications including process heat and hydrogen production.
  3. SNF-TP teams will work to improve the performance of current (generation II) and future near-term (generation III and III+) light-water reactors (LWR) while maintaining their high degree of safety.
  4. This will include performing studies on the feasibility of novel designs such as the supercritical water reactor (SCWR) and establishing a unified approach to LWR lifetime extension methodology.
